Civic Beautification
The Garden Club maintains the Veterans Memorial Garden at the American Legion Post 25 in Lake Placid. The club supports Keep Lake Placid Beautiful and maintains a garden located on Main Street, as well as the Masonic Lodge garden.
Arrange a Personal Welcome
Would you like to meet some of the Lake Placid Garden Club members? Want to learn more of the exciting community projects and events? Schedule a personal welcome at any of the local meetings. A member from the Board will greet you, sit with you at the meeting, and explain all about our club. Members may sponsor three people per year. They eagerly await to welcome you.
Acorn Project
Project Acorn has been a Lake Placid Garden Club initiative since August 2015. In conjunction with volunteer Ridge Rangers, we are committed to restoring native Scrub Oaks and large areas of the 2500-acre Florida Fish and Wildlife conservation land at Royce Unit near Lake Placid. The endangered Florida Scrub Jay is in desperate need of these trees for their continued preservation. Annual Scrub Jay counts show shrinking numbers of this unique bird. Land development continues to destroy their habitat. Club members assist in this project in phases of planting the acorns and native flowers, repotting sprout pots to 1-gallon pots and weeding the pots. The meetings are the 3rd Thursday of each month. Interested members please follow the Member Portal link to volunteer for this important project. Non-members may attend a general membership meeting as a guest and learn about the committee and more.

Blue Star Memorial Marker Program

The community is truly grateful for Donna Ferchen and Mark Ponsler and their dedicated efforts refurbishing the Blue Star Memorial, which stands as a meaningful tribute to our service members and a symbol of patriotism. Her commitment to enhancing this cherished landmark has fostered a sense of pride and unity among many of us. Additionally, Donna’s contributions to beautifying the grounds has transformed our community into a more welcoming and picturesque environment. Her passion and hard work have significantly enriched the beauty and spirit of Lake Placid Garden Club, making it a better place for everyone to enjoy. Additional pictures will be posted when the landscaping is complete.
A special thank you to the many sponsors of this worthy project. Dave Lipscomb, Toni Surace, David Mallery, Jim and Sandy Rose, John & Donna DeSimone, George & Doris Rohner, Cary Carciunoiu, Joe Borowski, Cecil Chuplis, Stephen Dean.

Garden Therapy
The 2nd Tuesday of each month at 10:00 am the Garden Club members visit the Lake Placid Health & Rehabilitation Center, a senior citizen nursing home.
Members create unique garden-related crafts which the residents can take to his/her room to enjoy. Activities are designed to encourage the residents to enjoy gardening as a means of mental and physical therapy. Non-members may attend a general membership meeting as a guest and learn about the committee and more.
Youth Gardening
On the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 1:30 Garden club members work with local school students in grades 3-6. Our goal is to provide hands on in small group instruction that encourages the students to connect with nature, investigate, experiment and care for the environment. The Garden Club members share their love of gardening and nature with the young impressionable minds. Some of the topics this year could include making bird seed feeders using pine cones, succulent plants and other projects. Non-members may attend a general membership meeting as a guest and learn about the committee and more.
